A light for families navigating childhood hearing loss

In 2008, our daughter Addison was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. Before we ever left the hospital, a routine newborn hearing screening changed our lives.
Addison did not pass her hearing test.
At first, we were told she was "probably fine," but follow up appointments brought more uncertainty, fear, and questions than answers. After multiple failed evaluations, we finally landed at UNC Chapel Hill and they diagnosed Addison with hearing loss.
From that moment on, our lives became centered around helping our daughter hear, learn, communicate, and thrive.
There were hearing aids as an infant, constant speech therapy appointments, insurance battles, school, meetings, cochlear, implant surgeries, and endless advocacy. Living in a smaller coastal community made finding specialized services even more difficult, and at times the journey felt overwhelming and isolating.
My wife, Lindsay, became Addison's greatest advocate.
A pharmacist by profession, Lindsay stepped away from her career to dedicate herself fully to helping Addison succeed. She fought for services, researched resources, created structure at home, and poured her love and energy into helping Addison build the fullest life possible.
During some of our hardest moments, The Care Project became a light for our family. Through counseling, retreats, journaling, and connection with families who had already walked this path, they reminded us that we were not alone.
That experience inspired the vision for Addison's aid.
Today, Addison is thriving. She is a successful student, athlete, and young woman preparing for adulthood. The fears we once carried about her future did not define her story.
Addison's Aid exists to inspire and support families navigating childhood hearing loss by providing encouragement, trusted resources, advocacy guidance, and hope for the future – all in honor of Lindsay and the extraordinary love that helped light the way.
